What is ICH CAHPS?
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems In-Center Hemodialysis Survey (CAHPS-ICH) measures the experience of people receiving In-Center Hemodialysis (ICH).
What does the survey assess?
The ICH CAHPS survey measures categories such as:
  • Patient’s interactions with ICH facility providers
  • Staff professionalism
  • Staff communication
  • Care and emotional support
  • Nephrologist’s communication and care
  • Coordination of care
  • Handling complaints
  • Patient involvement in decision-making
  • Safety and environment
  • Patient rights and privacy
Who participates?
Dialysis centers that serve at least 30 eligible patients in the calendar year are required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to administer the ICH CAHPS survey in order to receive a full Medicare reimbursement. Dialysis centers that fail to report ICH CAHPS could face a reduction in Medicare reimbursement.
Dialysis centers that served fewer than 30 patients may still voluntarily administer the ICH CAHPS survey.
Do I need a vendor to administer ICH CAHPS?
Yes. A CMS approved vendor is required for administering the ICH CAHPS survey. SurveyVitals is a CMS-approved vendor and ready to administer ICH CAHPS on your behalf.
Who receives the survey?
The survey is delivered to patients 18 years old or older who have received hemodialysis from their current ICH facility for three consecutive months or longer.
When is the survey administered?
The ICH CAHPS Survey is administered on a semiannual basis, in the fall and the spring.
What modes of administration are available?

Will my organization’s data be publicly reported?
